Cavalia

Almost 2 weeks ago now I wanted to surprise Dan with a date night. We were going to be in the city all weekend and had not gone out and done anything for a while. After hearing some great reviews, and the show being extended 6 times, I figured Cavalia was the best option for us.

Dan growing up in the city did not have the first hand experiences with horses like I did. I had to refrain myself every 2 minutes in the show to tell him what a move was called, either how difficult or easy it was, the breeds of the horses, all of those fun details. I can say that he definitely learned lots whether he wanted to or not!

The show really is fantastic though. The cast is great, the horses are amazing and the story that they tell is interesting while not taking away from the true talent of the animals. I loved the multiple choice questions at the beginning of the show to both entertain and educate the audience.

It would have been amazing to go into the barns after the show, however, by the time we bought tickets those types were all sold out.

If you have a chance in the next week you really need to go see this production. Not only is it a great family show, but it is just wonderfully entertaining.

Canadian Derby 2011

The girls and I decided to head out to Northland Park and watch the Canadian Derby. I had went with the family a long time ago and we had a great time. So it was time to pick out a hat and go again.

We are a little slacking in the hat department, but Brett and Quinn picked these up just that morning! Not bad for some last minute shopping!

There was a huge crowd and some great hats, more on that later this week though. Although it is not quite the same caliber of horses and fashion that you see at the Kentucky Derby, it was still really fun to go and see it all.

I even did a little betting on the races. I won a whole $2.25 on the day, but it beats losing money!

Derby day 2011 was a success for sure. We are already planning on shopping for hats earlier this year and making a big splash next year!

136th Kentucky Derby

I love the Kentucky Derby. There is just something about that first Saturday in May that makes it feel like spring and the excitement of the summer is in the air.

I have a dream to get to the Kentucky Derby one day. I think it would be amazing to get all dressed up and wear a beautiful hat and stroll through the crowd and horses!

This year we thought about going to the Derby, but decided to go to New York instead. Did we ever make a good decision there! It poured the week before the Derby and the track was a mess. It definitely would have not been as much fun, but some people took full advantage of the weather!
And then there was the actual race. There was no real favorite this year, and with the track being sloppy it was wide open.

You sure can tell that this was the beginning of the race....And that this was the end of the race!

My dad always says that in horse racing it is all about the jockey and this race proved that. The jockey on the winning horse has won the Kentucky Derby the last 3/4 years! That is a pretty impressive feat.
