Happy 2011

Well the holidays are now officially over. I hope that all of you had a great break whether it be from work or school.

I had a great holiday season, probably one of the best in recent years. I have some posts coming up this week about some of my Christmas gifts, as well as all the new happenings around the farm as we have started calving season!

In the mean time, I thought that a 101 in 1001 update was in store.

#3- Read a book every month.
My reading had been on a hiatus for a bit, but I have kept with reading at least one book a month. My current read is How To Make Love Like A Pornstar. It is an autobiography by Jenna Jameson. I have to say it is one of the best books that I have read in a long time! It is funny, and raw, and she really does not hold anything back. It is a big read, but definetly one that I would suggest.

#18- See a movie every month
The last movie that we see, Black Swan, you can read my review here.

This month we are going to go see Country Strong. I have been waiting to see this movie for a long time now. I really hope that it lives up to my expectations. Here is the trailer below!

#64- Own 10 cows
Well I did it! In 2010, this summer actually I owned 10 cows of my own. Since that time I have cut back after selling a bred heifer at Checkers, and a couple of my cows being open. My next goal is to cut it down to about 5. I have some good cows now, but time to get some great ones!

As of January 1st, I have completed 36 items, and have 13 that I have started or am working on. Just about 50%!

Movie Review: Black Swan

Last night Brett and I decided to go and check out a movie. We had both been wanting to see the Black Swan movie, and as it was cheap movie night we thought it would be the perfect way to spend a night before we both took off for Christmas.

The movie looked a little out there, but I love dancing, and the movie had gotten some really good reviews so I was really looking forward to seeing it.

I have to say that this is the worst movie I have ever seen. It is weird, creepy, and just messed up. The only good thing about it was about 5 minutes of the dancing, and the rest.... well lets just say it was not good.

Please save your money and go see another movie this holiday season. You will be thankful you did!

Eat, Pray, Love

Three simple words, three words that I think more of us need to learn to live by.

Last night we had a girls night out and went to see the new Julia Roberts film Eat, Pray, Love. I had read this book about 6 weeks ago, and was dying to see the film. Lets just say that I had pretty high expectations going into it.

I can now say that my expectations were met and exceeded. I loved this movie. It was the first thing in a while that really made me stop and think about my life, and how I was living it. It followed fairly closely (especially for a movie) to the book. It really encompassed Liz's journey through Italy, India, and Indonesia.

The feelings that I got from the film, and book are hard to explain in words. I hope that some of you have the chance to see this film, and experience what I did last night.

Golden Globes Best Dressed

This years woman really came out in full force. The woman had some beautiful dresses, and making this list was really tough. Hope you enjoy my picks and let me know what was your favorite!
Best Dressed: Maria Meunounos
I love this dress. I love the drama, I love the color, and most of all I love the train! This is perfection.
Best Purple Dress: Rose Byrne
I love the colour of this dress. Yes it may be very simple, but it is beautiful and elegant. I love the jewel detailing on the hip. The only thing that could be better is if her hair was pulled back.

Best Black Dress: Lea Michele
This dress goes to show anyone that black is not boring. This dress has so many interesting parts to it. I love the volume of the skirt. My only complaint is that it is a little old for young Lea.

Best White Dress: Anna Kendrick
This dress is my runner-up for best dress as well. I love how elegant and beautiful she looks. The shoulder detailing is amazing as well. Her hair is perfect as well as accessories! I also love the ribbon for Haiti as well... very respectful.

Can Do No Wrong: Sandra Bullock
This year is Sandra's year. She looks stunning here in a beautiful purple dress. I noticed this dress last week in a bridal magazine and was thrilled to see it on the red carpet! I love how the skirt is shear to show some leg, without a slit. Love the wispy hair as well.

Always Perfection: Penelope Cruz
After a disappointing promo tour for her movie Nine, Penelope really comes out looking great. Her style is always impeccable and she continually finds herself on best dressed list one after another.

Best Sexy Dress: Olivia Wild
Take note Mariah Carey this is how you do sexy. Olivia looks stunning in this heavily jeweled dress. Love the ponytail to top it all off.

Never Looked Better: Jane Lynch
I may be a bit bias as I have a custom made dress in this colour hanging in my closet, but I love this colour on Jane. She looks stunning here.

Best Short Dress: Ginnifer Goodwin
Although short dresses are not common, and with Ginnifer just being a presenter this dress works. I love the bold colour on her. The twist details and accessories really work here.

This Is How You Do Pink Dress: Emily Blunt
This dress is very romantic and beautiful. I love the billow ruffles and airy feel of this dress. She has a stunning necklace on as well.

Best Ethereal Dress: Dianna Agron
Ethereal dresses were all the rage 2 years ago, so it is great to see another come back. I love the overall look of this dress. She really is glowing. Stunning hair and make-up.
Best Drama Dress: Christina Hendrick
Christina reminds me of Jessica Rabbit all the time. The red hair, curvy figure and overall sexy appeal. This ruffled dress is no exception.

Not Sure About This Dress, But I Like It: Zoe Saldana

Not only is Zoe my female fashion crush, but she has been tearing up the big screen for the last year. I love the colour of this dress, and her hair and make-up also look great. I am not a huge heavy ruffled fan, but here it works.

Golden Globes Worst Dressed

The second awards show of the season was tonight. This is my favorite of them all for a few reasons. It gives us a good look at who will be in contention for Oscars, it is not nearly as stuff and formal as the Oscars, and it includes both TV and Film, so twice as many dresses!!
These are my picks of the Worst Dressed. Let me know what you think!
Worst Dressed: Anna Paquin
I really hate this dress. It is way to shiny and glittery. The shoes are a terrible choice, and much to heavy for a dress like this. Also not sure what is on her right wrist, but it was a bad choice.
Should Have Been Great But Wasn't: Julianne Moore
When your date is Tom Ford the legendary fashion designer who has been the head of fashion houses like Gucci for years, you should look amazing right? Well whatever Julianne was thinking it did not come out amazing. i don't mind the color, but whatever is happening at the top is not working for me. Nor are the heavy emerald earrings as beautiful as they are!
From Best to Worst: January Jones
Last Year January was every one's best dressed in an amazing Versace dress. This year her Lavin dress does nothing to impress. It is boring and forgetful. The headband is also awful...
Should Have Stuck to Black: Tina Fey
Every awards show Tina wears black. Although it may not be the most creative or exciting, it is much better then this. This dress is an awkward length, and the pattern is hard on the eyes. Good try for trying something new, but next time stick to what works.
Never Gets it Right: Drew Barrymore
Drew has a different sense of style. She always tries new looks, and usually they fail. This dress is actually very nice, aside from the fungus looking growths on her hip and shoulder.
Just Not Working for Me: Sofia Avergara
This dress is just not exciting me. I do not like the colour combo, and the long train coming off here back just doesn't work for me either. Another one that is a good attempt, but didn't pan out.
Get This Woman Some Support: Heidi Klum
For a woman who is a spokesperson for bra's, you would think she knows something about support. However, that is exactly what Heidi was lacking with this dress. I love the dress, but it just didn't all come together. Plus her hair really needs to be pulled back.
Put the Girls Away: Mariah Carey
We all know that you have large breasts. Please do not feel the need to shove them in our face!
Most Disappointing: Diane Kruger
Diane is another one with a different sense of style. But unlike Drew Barrymore, she usually ends up on best dressed lists. This dress really does not work for me. I do not like the colour at all. Pink dresses on the red carpet make me think of little girls birthday parties...
Please Go Back Blonde: Fergie
I really like this dress. I think it is probably the best that Fergie has ever looked. However, the dark hair really ruins this look for me.

Should Have Stuck With the Runway Version: Carey Mulligan

Carey is another girl who usually is on the best dressed lists. This dress just lacks enough to make it onto the best dressed list. The runway version had so much more excitement and detail.

The Evolution Begins

The world of Avatar is something that is all very new to me. So when the new James Cameron movie came out, I was not jumping up and down to see it. Sure it had great technology, and supposedly a decent store line, but it was not just overly appealing to me.

Over the weeks, I kept hearing more and more reports about how amazing the movie was. Finally tonight I was able to see the movie, and what an experience it was.

The first thing that is truly unbelievable is the 3-D experience. To have the movie jump off the screen, and be right on your lap, its amazing. The way we watch movies really has changed. Secondly, the idea and work that went into this film is unlike any other. To creating a new language to new animals, and a new culture takes more time then you can imagine.

Once you settle in to the movie, the story takes place. It is a great mix of action, emotion, and a little bit of romance as well. The movie has a great plot, and takes you to another world, literally!

One of my new favorite actresses Zoe Saldana is the lead actress. Not only is she beautiful in real life, but she makes a beautiful tall blue woman as well!
If you have the chance go see this movie, especially in the theatre. I don't think that watching it at home will give you nearly the same effect.

Time to Share #8

So I know that this is one day late, but with Agribition going on things have been a little crazy. This weeks time to share will be very different from previous.

This week I want to feature and introduce you to a program called FrostWire. This is very similar to LimeWire in that it is a program that downloads media. Everything from pictures, to videos and music.

The big difference between LimeWire and FrostWire is the speed of downloads. It takes a matter of seconds to download songs compared to minutes. It is designed the same, so it is easy to navigate. The best part is the free download, and it takes only a few minutes to install.

I know when I get home from Agribition I will be adding a lot of new songs to my playlists!

... and I Caved

Many of you know my feelings towards the Twilight saga. I didn't dispute that the movie was really good, I just didn't understand that fascination with the actors, and especially their good looks.

Last night I rented the first movie and decided to watch it.... I wish I could say that I didn't like the movie, but it was actually pretty good. It has a great love story that develops. The acting was definitely sub-par, and the whole vampire thing is weird in itself. But overall, I actually liked the movie.

Now, as far as the actors and their good looks.

Taylor who plays Jacob, is extremely good looking in real life, however, he is only 17, so we will pass right by him. However, in the movie, he have the longest, grossest hair possible. Definitely making him unattractive.Robert Pattinson is the one I have the real issue with. 1) he is not good looking in real life, 2) he has all of 1min looking good in the movie, and 3) this guy constantly looks like he is in need of a shower! I don't see what the draw is to this guy, and I for one am still a believer that he is not hot!
Finally, Kristen Stewart.... Oh how I have a bone to pick with you. She looks beautiful and innocent in the movie. However, once she steps out into real life, she looks absolutely horrible! She possibly has the worst hair cut I have ever seen and looks like she never showers. She also gets to live most women fantasies out wearing beautiful designer clothing as every turn, and destroys these beautiful clothes by looking absolutely miserable wearing them!I promised Brett that when I get back from Agribition we could go and see the second movie. I'm actually looking forward to seeing it, as it looks like another entertaining movie. Just be prepared for a few rants about it when its all over!

101 in 1001 update

I am now on my way to accomplishing some of my 101 in 1001 tasks. I thought that I would fill you in on some of the details on my journey to do this!

2.Read a book every month- I have been doing really good with my reading. I forgot how much I actually liked to read. It is a great way to unwind for the night, or to get your mind off something. I love reading books about weddings, event, socialites and celebrity life.

9.Stop biting my nails- I had been doing so good! I haven't chewed my nails for a week, which is a real accomplishment for me. However, going 22 years without nail, and having decently long nails irritated the crap out of me. Little tasks like typing and doing up my jeans were difficult. So last night they all got chewed off... guess I'm gonna have to start over on this one.

18.See one movie every month (2/33)- Some of the movies that I have seen are The Proposal, This Is It, The Ugly Truth and Terminator Salvation. My favorite by far is This Is It. I will probably go and see it a few more times, or just buy the DVD when it comes out.

22.Restock my itunes- I now have over 900 songs back in my Itunes. I know I am missing a lot of my favorites, but is is slowly getting back to where it was on my old laptop.

26. Travel to Australia- So I am wanting to go in 2010 during the World Simmental Congress. My family is also going to try to attend, so it would be one of the first family holidays we have had in a really long time. My plan is to go for the Congress and stay for another month or 2.

51.Sell my old car- So the old white car is officially gone. But as much as I miss that car, my new car finally feels like my car.

98.See Ruffles once a month (2/33)- For those of you who do not understand, Ruffles is as close to me as lots of your dogs are to you. She is my baby. I honestly don't think that I have ever loved something as much as her. She has been open for the last year, and despite the lack of feed, it was no question that she would be staying around. My cows would not be as special to me if she was not around. Now that she is at the farm it will be a lot easier to see her each time I'm home.

So as you can see I am making some headway with my tasks. I hope to get a lot further on them in the next few months. Some of them have become unattainable now, and some have changed due to things that come up in life. But I am going to accomplish as many of them as possible, cause that's what you do with goals isn't it?

This Is It

So the day finally came that I was able to go and see the Michael Jackson movie This Is It.

Most of you have probably clued in that I am a huge Michael Jackson fan. I know all of this life choices that he made not always have been what we would classify as normal. But in saying that I really don't think that there has been anyone that as left such an impact on the music business, and left us with songs that will always be remembered.

Anyways, back to the movie. I had read reviews that the film was one of the best documentaries to ever have been produced. And it should be. Lucky enough we are able to catch a glimpse into the final days of MJ and the preparations for what was to be one of the biggest concerts of all time.

I was nothing short of astound with the movie. Not only is it a collection of his best and most loved songs, but the production that went into creating this experience is unreal. I don't want to share to much of the movie with you, and would encourage you to go watch it yourself, or rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Below is one of my favorite clips from the movie. Not only does it combine 2 of my favorite songs, but it just goes to show the great lengths MJ and his team went to. They wanted to provide the concert goer with the best experience possible, and I think that they would have. If you look closely, you can even see my good friends cousin dancing. He was selected as one of MJ's 10 dancers for the concert.

The Countdown Begins

As many of you know, I am a huge MJ fan. If you are able to look past all of the controversy in his all to short lifetime, he was hands down the best artist that music has ever seen.

Last night during the MTV VMA's the first trailer for MJ's movie was released. This is a compilation of footage from his upcoming tour rehearsals.

The movie is released on October 28th for 2 weeks only. I know that I will be going once if not more to see this. I truly think that it will be one of my personal favorite films ever!

Take a look at the trailer and judge for yourself.

Movie Reviews

So I know I have been away for the last few weeks. But I have lots to catch everyone up on. I have had a lot of changes in my life, all what I think will be for the better, but like I said, more to come on that.

I have always been a huge movie fan. I tend to get to 2-3 movies a month, plus those that I will rent or watch online. Over the last 10 days I have seen 3 new movies and throughout that I would start offering my 2 cents on the movies I watch.

The Ugly Truth

One evening while out at the farm, my mom wanted to go watch this movie, so my mom, dad and I all came into the city to watch this film. Probably the first time that we had done that in over 5 or 6 years!

Anyways, I was really excited to see this movie. I had seen lots of previews for it, and always thought that it looked good, not great though. I am not a Katherine Heigl fan. I feel that she is a decent actress, but is such a diva, and does not have the talent to pull being a diva off.

Aside from the people in the film, I found the movie to be really funny. Much funnier then I expected. There are a few scenes that really are burst out laughing scenes. The movie had a great, although predictable plot line, and overall it is a really good easy watching film.

Inglorious Bastards

Monday night I went with a friend to watch the much anticipated Inglorious Bastards. I am not a Quentin Tarantino fan. I have never seen one of his films, mainly because none of them interest me. However, this one was different.

I really enjoy war movies, as long as they are not to dry, and as with all women, I enjoy Brad Pitt. This was another movie that I was pleasantly surprised by.

If you can watch through the gore and gruesome scenes, this movie is not only entertaining, but also has some really good humour in it. Some may hate this movie, as you read subtitles about 1/2 of the time, but trust me its worth it.

This movie has a great plot line, is entertaining, and keeps you entertained till the very end. I will warn you that it is quite long in length, but worth every moment.

I Love You Man

So I know this movie is a little old now, but I had never seen it. A good friend came over and we rented it as something to do tonight.

This movie has tons of laughs and again although predictable, it was a great plot, and just a easy watch. This is the type of movie you could watch over and never get tired of.

As a women, it gives you a funny incite to what guys are like when we are not around. I can truthfully say that I don't understand it all, but hey at least it is good comedy...
