Denver Stock Show 2011- Simmental Female Show Results

Well the Simmental show wrapped up in Denver today. It is to bad that most people think that Denver ends on Sunday, when there is still breed shows, and the Jr Market Steer show happening this week.

Remington Cattle Company was the lone Canadian's exhibiting cattle today. They represented the Canadian Simmental cattle well yet again. Although we had no class winners, we can definitely be proud.

A big congratulations to Jake Bloomberg as well. He not only had Champion Female in the Jr Show, but also in the Open show!

Denver Stock Show 2011- Simmental Bull Show Results

Well finally after a week of Denver happening the Simmental show finally started. Today the Juniors and Bulls showed, with the Females showing tomorrow.

Both Harvie Ranching and Remington Cattle Company were taking part in the bull show today. Although not huge numbers were in the bull show, they quality was strong as ever.

I was excited to see the Mr Hoc Broker bull do well, as he is a 3/4 brother to our heifer Elegant Force.

Congratulations to the Canadian's on another great show, and good luck tomorrow in the ever tough female show.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Club Calf Bulls

The most talked about part of Denver has to be the Club Calf Bulls that come to be displayed. For the next couple years these bulls will be debated about what one was the best, who has went on to produce the best, and what one is the next great one.

Whether you are a part of the club calf industry or not, they are always fun to look at. The hours that go into getting these bulls ready is unreal.

Here is a sample of the bulls that were in the yards this year.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Shorthorn Bull Show Results

Another day kicked off in Denver with the Shorthorn Bull show on the hill. There was only one Canadian farm showing today, and they are actually neighbors of ours only living about 20 mins away from the farm.

Alta Cedar Shorthorns showed three bulls today. Although there were no class winners, they still did a great job representing Canada.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Black Angus Pen Show

The Canadians came out in full force for the Black Angus Pen Show today. We had three farms competing including:

These breeders held back from showing these animals on the hill for a chance to win the pens show. The breeders did any excellent job. It really was to bad that out of the 4 pens total, 3 were in the same class. However, we will came out with 1-1st place, 2- 2nd place, and a 4th place.

Congratulations again to these breeders, and safe travels home.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Herford Female Show

The Canadian Hereford breeders were busy today wrapping up their show in Denver. Five different farms were showing today including

Glenlees Farm

Combined between the Horned and Polled show, there were 1-1st place, 1- 2nd place, and 1- 3rd place.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Hereford Females and Black Angus Pens

Today will be another busy day in Denver, and it has turned out to be a busy day here at the farm in Breton. I will have some results up tonight from both the Angus and Hereford shows. Good luck to our Canadian participants.

I am also planning on getting some posts up later this week about the happenings on the farm. It has been a busy few weeks as we are in the middle of calving and temperatures have been in the -30 Celsius range for the past few days. Defiantly not the ideal time to be born if you are a baby calf.

Hope everyone stays warm this weekend!

Denver Stock Show 2011- Black Angus Female Results

The Black Angus wrapped up there showing today with the female classes today. This is one of the larger shows in Denver, so it took a good while to get through the show.

The Canadians had a few less entries in the show today, however, the cattle did really well. There was also one animal that was born and raised in Canada who went on to do really well. You can see her picture below.

Congratulations to all of the Black Angus breeders and exhibitors.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Hereford Pen Show

To me Denver is unique not only because of the cattle, and the people, but mainly because of " The Yards" The Yards is a term used for the area that is down the hill in the old Stock Yards area. This is where the Denver Stock Show all started.

In the yards you will find the pen cattle that are there to compete, along with many other display cattle. Today the Herefords had a chance to compete in the pen and carload show. You can head over to the Star Lake website for some great info on what a Carload is and how the show all got started.

Star Lake has won the Carload bull show for the past 11 years, and were trying to make it 12 straight years today. This is quite an accomplishment. I was really hoping for them to do well today, and well is exactly how they did.

The bulls ended up winning, and they now hold the title of 12 consecutive Carload's won. A title that I am not sure will ever be met or beat.

This is the bronze that Star Lake took home

Denver Stock Show 2011- Black Angus Females and Hereford Pens

Well today is the start to a crazy weekend in Denver. The Black Angus shows will come to an end today with the Female show. There is another handful of Canadians competing in it today including

Bandura Angus

The other big event that is happening today is the Hereford Pen shows. These will take place this afternoon, and I know I will be cheering on Star Lake to win their 12th straight carload. A real accomplishment. You can check out the daily report from the Star Lake team in Denver through Randy's blog.

I will hope to keep you updated as I can tonight and over the weekend. I am headed home to the farm for a few days. It is about -35 here with the wind chill and we have a handful of our top cows all due right now!

Denver Stock Show 2011- Hereford Bull Show Results

Well today was a pretty fun day for me. Even though I was stuck in my office watching results and pictures come in from the Hereford show, it was a really fun day to see so many friends do well.

Many people always ask how I have friends in another breed, but the truth is we are just one big family. We all hang out with each other after the showing is done, and cheer each other on while the other is showing.

Over the past few months we have gotten to put faces and names behind the Star Lake name. Those of us in the cattle industry had heard of and see the success that they have had, so it was pretty cool to see them do well today. I am sure that Jon and Crystal are bound to have a good time tonight as always.

Just as with the Red and Black Angus the Hereford breeders should be extremely proud of the Canadian cattle that were exhibited and shown today. This is how our Canadian placings tallied as well as Star Lake's.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Hereford Bull Show

Well another day and another show in Denver. Today will be a busy one for result watching as there are a few Canadian's showing today.

In the Hereford shows, I say shows because the Horned and Polled bulls both show today, we have a nice group of Canadians competing including:

Along with the Canadians, I will also be watching out for Star Lake Herefords. Crystal's boyfriend Jon and his family are part of this operation, and they usually have a very good Denver. So all eyes will be on them today.

Good luck to everyone and I will have some results up later today!

Well what a sale it was last night. I only watched the first bit of the sale due to some other plans I had last night, but I was really excited to see the sale went well as always.

The main reason I was watching the sale was to see how the bulls were going to sell, specifically the Lot 3 bull, HF Kodiak.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Bases Loaded

Today is a relatively slow day for the Canadian's in Denver. There is lots of movement int he barns with Black Angus and Herefords getting moved into the Hill, and our Red Angus friends have all headed for home now.

Tonight however, things will get amped up big time for our Canadian Black Angus breeders!

The Bases Loaded sales is one of the elite Angus sales in North America. In the past few sales, some Canadian herds have been invited to participate in this event.

The sale is held at Coors Field, the baseball diamond where the Colorado Rockies play. They actually have the cattle there, so it is a really neat one of a kind event.

This year there is one lot that has gotten a lot of buzz not only in Canada but also the USA. HF Kodiak 5R is one of the most influential Black Angus bulls in the breed. He is Canadian born and bred, and a really impressive bull both to see and to look at what he has produced.

The Bases Loaded sale is one that I make sure to watch each year. It is pretty cool to watch cattle sell for potentially $100,000.00. And it has happened before!

The sale is going to be featured on Live Auctions tonight, and the sale starts at 5:00PM MST
