Denver Stock Show 2011- Black Angus Pen Show

The Canadians came out in full force for the Black Angus Pen Show today. We had three farms competing including:

These breeders held back from showing these animals on the hill for a chance to win the pens show. The breeders did any excellent job. It really was to bad that out of the 4 pens total, 3 were in the same class. However, we will came out with 1-1st place, 2- 2nd place, and a 4th place.

Congratulations again to these breeders, and safe travels home.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Hereford Females and Black Angus Pens

Today will be another busy day in Denver, and it has turned out to be a busy day here at the farm in Breton. I will have some results up tonight from both the Angus and Hereford shows. Good luck to our Canadian participants.

I am also planning on getting some posts up later this week about the happenings on the farm. It has been a busy few weeks as we are in the middle of calving and temperatures have been in the -30 Celsius range for the past few days. Defiantly not the ideal time to be born if you are a baby calf.

Hope everyone stays warm this weekend!

Denver Stock Show 2011- Black Angus Female Results

The Black Angus wrapped up there showing today with the female classes today. This is one of the larger shows in Denver, so it took a good while to get through the show.

The Canadians had a few less entries in the show today, however, the cattle did really well. There was also one animal that was born and raised in Canada who went on to do really well. You can see her picture below.

Congratulations to all of the Black Angus breeders and exhibitors.

Well today is the start to a crazy weekend in Denver. The Black Angus shows will come to an end today with the Female show. There is another handful of Canadians competing in it today including

Bandura Angus

The other big event that is happening today is the Hereford Pen shows. These will take place this afternoon, and I know I will be cheering on Star Lake to win their 12th straight carload. A real accomplishment. You can check out the daily report from the Star Lake team in Denver through Randy's blog.

I will hope to keep you updated as I can tonight and over the weekend. I am headed home to the farm for a few days. It is about -35 here with the wind chill and we have a handful of our top cows all due right now!

The main reason I was watching the sale was to see how the bulls were going to sell, specifically the Lot 3 bull, HF Kodiak.

Denver Stock Show 2011- Bases Loaded

Today is a relatively slow day for the Canadian's in Denver. There is lots of movement int he barns with Black Angus and Herefords getting moved into the Hill, and our Red Angus friends have all headed for home now.

Tonight however, things will get amped up big time for our Canadian Black Angus breeders!

The Bases Loaded sales is one of the elite Angus sales in North America. In the past few sales, some Canadian herds have been invited to participate in this event.

The sale is held at Coors Field, the baseball diamond where the Colorado Rockies play. They actually have the cattle there, so it is a really neat one of a kind event.

This year there is one lot that has gotten a lot of buzz not only in Canada but also the USA. HF Kodiak 5R is one of the most influential Black Angus bulls in the breed. He is Canadian born and bred, and a really impressive bull both to see and to look at what he has produced.

The Bases Loaded sale is one that I make sure to watch each year. It is pretty cool to watch cattle sell for potentially $100,000.00. And it has happened before!

The sale is going to be featured on Live Auctions tonight, and the sale starts at 5:00PM MST
