Arizona Grand

One of the things I wanted to do while in Phoenix was to go golfing. With my last time on a course being September and our courses not opening until May, I was itching to get out there and enjoy a round or two.

No sooner then 2 hrs after I landed I was teeing off at the Arizona Grand. This resort course was a great way to start the weekend with the Romanyk's.

Top 10 of 2011

This past year was pretty awesome. I know it is the cliche thing to do, but time really did fly, and I have to say it was one of the best years yet! Here are the Top 10 things according to me.

10. Home Reno- My living room was the last room that needed to be redone. Thanks to a work bonus I can officially say it is completed! And yes I still love my white couch.

9. Year of Concerts- Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson the Immortal Tour and Keith Urban made this year pretty awesome. What great performances these all were.

8. Canmore/Banff- "The Eng" decided to plan a trip to Canmore/Banff for the weekend. If was awesome to get away and spend some time together. Golfing Silver Tip was pretty cool too.

7. Work Achievements- I had a killer year at Delta Hotels and Resorts. I made top 25 in the company for Quarters 1 & 2 and 4. Along with some bonus's along the ways it feels pretty good to be on top of my game.

6. Vegas- I love Vegas so it was great to go back with Brett this year. Garth Brooks was amazing and it was pretty awesome to meet "The Eng" and his friend Kevin down there too.

5. New York- New York is another soft spot of mine. Only a few months into dating a boy we jumped on a plane together for 5 days in the Big Apple. A Yankee's game, amazing food, a kick ass hotel and some great company made this a pretty awesome time.

4. Cattle Time- I had an amazing year with my cattle. In March I sold 2 bulls at the Red Deer Bulls sale for $5000 and $5500. Top that off with Elle embryo's selling in Louisville and being able to show Southern Elle all fall and I am ready to see what 2012 brings!

3. Rival- As a family we had a pretty fun ride with RJY Rival 13Y. He was Jr Champion Bull and National Res. Champion Bull at Farmfair and then went onto be Jr. Champion Bull at Agribition a few weeks later. A big thanks to Kopp Farms and the Rival Syndicate for purchasing this herd sire at Checkers for $40,000!

2. Rings and Weddings- In May we got a awesome piece of news when Jon finally proposed to Crystal. We are really excited to travel to Iowa this spring for their wedding, and it has been great getting to know Jon and his family this year.

1. "The Eng"- While in Vegas I met a pretty awesome guy myself. We have spent the last 10 months travelling, showing cattle, hanging out at the lake, and becoming best friends. Stay tuned for 2012 as some exciting things are coming!

Silver Tip Golf

The last part of my weekend away with "the Eng" was a trip to the Silver Tip Golf Course. Both "the Eng" and I love to golf, and it has been something that we have not only been able to do together this summer, but also with out friends and family.

I started out golfing a lot this summer, but that had kind of come to a slow down when things started to pick up on the farm and at work. I was a bit rusty and was not sure how I would fair on a tougher course. However, the picture below shows the first hole we played. Yes I made it there in 2 and got Par on the first hole.

Eng's ball is also there, but mine was closer to the pin!
The curse is really beautiful. There are great views of the mountains on every hole, and the course is in awesome shape. It made playing that much more enjoyable, especially on one of the nicest days of the year!

This might have been on of my favorite shots of the weekend. This is the 18th hole and a daunting one at that. I out drove all of the guys that we played with to tap in for a solid score of 99.

I would highly recommend this course for a special occasion. Not the kind of course you are going to play every weekend, but for a special day, or once a year treat to yourself this is a great pick!

Weekend With " The Eng" Part 1

This past weekend "the Eng" decided that he was going to surprise me. I am the type of person who really does not like surprises as I need to be in control of the situation at all time. But with blind faith I decided to agree, not that I had much choice, and let him plan a weekend for us.

He showed up on Friday night to pick me up with some beautiful summer flowers! Not a bad way to start the weekend.

I really need to learn the names of all these types
Saturday started with getting breakfast in bed, followed by me being told we were going golfing. I had a feeling leading up to this weekend that I knew the destinations of the activities we would be doing, but not knowing 100% still bugged me a little bit.

We drove out west of the city to a golf course called, The Ranch. It is a really beautiful course, one that I had always heard good things about but had never played.
Our golf carts had GPS which was cool.
The course is real beautiful and it was probably the nicest day we have had all summer. The bugs were not to bad, and it was hot! The course is really neat as it keeps the ranch theme throughout. There was an old thrasher, wagon wheels, skulls and so much more.

After golfing we headed back and got changed for supper. Again I did not know 100% where we were going, but a had a hunch. My instincts were right and we headed to Lux Steakhouse downtown for supper. This is probably one of my favorite places in Edmonton, so he really did a good job picking!

The Lobster Mac & Cheese is to die for!

It was a great start to the weekend, but Sunday would be the real test for "the Eng"....

Swing and a Miss

This last weekend we decided to get a round of golf in. The weather has not been that great for golfing as the rain keeps coming, so we wanted to take full advantage of a nice day.

So far this year I have golfed more then I have any other year. Being in Edmonton, there are so many courses to chose from, and so we have played 6 different ones so far. It was supposed to be 7, but last night we got rained out after a crazy storm that hit the city.

My big goal for golf this year is to score under 100. This is the first real year where I have golfed 18 holes, before it was just 9 that we would do. 100 is a pretty good score for the average golfer. Take into account that I have never had a lesson, just worked off of tips from friends and family, and 100 is an even better score!

"The Eng" showing us how it is done

Part of my problem in the past is that hardly any of my friends know how to golf, or just don't enjoy it like I do. This was all solved when my roommate Brett decided she wanted to take up the game. She has even bought her own clubs now, and we try to hit the course at least one a week, weather permitting.

Brett trying to stay out of the water.

The other thing that has really helped is that "the Eng" loves to golf! He is a really good golfer himself and has been able to help me with my game this year.

I think the best part about golfing this year has just been getting out with friends and having a couple of laughs. I am a highly competitive person, but with golf it doesn't seem so much about winning as you are only competing with yourself. Plus who can get mad or not be having fun when you have views like this!

Golf Courses

One of my favorite summer activities is golfing. It started about 3 years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. After my first round I went and bought my own clubs and have never looked back.

Not a lot of my friends golf, so it started out going with the family on the weekends. Now it has turned into a weekly thing for me to do, and there is nothing better then hitting the course or the driving range after a long day at work, or on a relaxing weekend.

One of my other favorite things about golfing is just getting out and enjoying the course. Golf courses are really beautiful, and this year I have been able to play 4 new courses, and have enjoyed each one of them.

Shaving the Strokes

This Christmas I really wanted a putter. I love to golf, but my putting is definitely one of my weak points of the game. I can never see where I am hitting the ball with the putter that came with my clubs. I thought it would be a good idea to get a new putter and improve my game.

My grandparents gave me a gift certificate to Golf Town to go purchase a putter that I liked. After trying a few different ones, and the only advice from the salesman being, "there is really no difference in the putters, just find one that you like.", I was a little lots. Thank goodness for the putting greens in the store, and one hour later I had made my decision.

I decide to go with a Odyssey putter. It is a blade head that makes it easier for me to see where I am hitting the ball. The blade is also "very forgiving" so hopefully that will help my game too.

I will keep you posted if I am able to shave some strokes off my game this summer with my new club!

Delta Golf Tournement

I thought that it was time that I caught you up on a few of things that have been happening in my life. I have been waiting on the pictures, and they are finally here now!

With work, we have a company golf tournament. It is fairly small with 30 or so people playing, but it is a great time! This year I played with our Director of Sales, and our Computer tech. We had a great time, and lots of laughs along the way. We didn't even do that bad placing 3rd. Especially since our Computer tech had never played before!
After golf we all headed to my boss's house for a steak and lobster supper. This is the best meal that I have had in ages. I don't remember the last time I had a steak that was that tender!

They handed out lots of prizes as well. I played well enough to win Ladies Longest Drive, and Ladies Longest Putt. Not bad for someone who had not played in 3 months!

Can't wait for next year! Should be a really fun time again
